Love to sew? Like making props? Need your costume fixed? Want to relax between panels in your favorite vice? Pick up a few new tricks? Want a safe space to learn how to sew? Come join our sewing tribe at Animazement, the annual convention celebrating anime and Japan. You’re invited to stitch up a storm Memorial Weekend at the Raleigh Convention Center. Nash has been hard at work behind the scenes this past year putting together a Japanese style sewing cafe for us to play in. He’s also bringing a lot of sewing and prop help in addition to his sewing mechanic and general fixing skills. Jenny Mitchell, Ella Brooks, Spencer Oliver, Miranda Crenshaw, and I will be assisting him in the Cosplay Sewing Cafe. Jenny is the assistant costume designer at Raleigh Little Theatre, Ella is the wardrobe mistress for Carolina Ballet, Spencer is a local furniture upholstery patternmaker who runs Sewnado, Miranda is cosplay nerd who is a professional 4-star chef by day and rogue stitcher by night, and I’m an industry-trained patternmaker who runs the product development department at Haus Page.
We are excited to reveal it in a few weeks. This is a huge step-up from the traditional costume repair booth Nash runs, as there will be lots of sewing machines you can use, free sewing kits, fabric, thread, and other notions in addition to the normal Duck tape and quick repair items. Perfect if you want to spend 30 minutes or 30 hours making stuff. We will have an on-site sewing mechanic, patternmaker, costume designer, and stitchers, all available to work with you to help you bring designs to life. You can also knit in comfy chairs or sip tea with us while we share favorite techniques and try out new things.
Sewing Club Membership is $5/hour session or $10/day. All sessions come with free sewing repair kit, membership printed pass, and make-n-take kits. You can pre-buy your tickets via Square at: email@example.com or at the door via credit card or cash. 100% of funds raised go directly to Raleigh Little Theater. For those of you new to the area or theater, Raleigh Little Theatre is a fantastic non-profit community theater near NC State whose mission is to enrich, educate, entertain, and engage the local community at all ages. Nash and I have loved supporting them for years, especially their costume talented design department: Vicki Olsen and Jenny Mitchell. We will also be accepting sewing and prop making equipment this month for anyone who would like to participate as a contributor. You can drop stuff off at our shop if you contact Nash in advance at: firstname.lastname@example.org.
